 The Dew and the Manna

"And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it." Numbers 11:9.

Moses was recalling that time when God was gracious to the infirmity and want of His people. And in the wilderness, where there was nothing to eat, He provided manna for their souls. It was bread from heaven. It was called "angels' food ".

"And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full." Psalm 78:24-25.

Our Lord Jesus, without hesitation explains that the manna pointed to Him! That what was in type, given to the nation of Israel in the wilderness of sin, anticipated the time when God almighty would come in the form of Human flesh to give his life for the world. Christ is the genuine bread from heaven ;

"I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." John 6:51.  Jesus Christ makes it emphatically clear that except a man receive Christ Jesus the LORD, all of Him, there is no hope of life eternal!  "Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you." John 6:54.

And yet will you notice that the manna was not present until the dew fell first?  "And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it." Numbers 11:9.

This dew is a reference to the presence of GOD!  "I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon." Hosea 14:5.

It signifies His blessing and His favor of Grace upon the elect of God;  "The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass." Prov 19:12.

All flesh is but grass, all of us, and without Him we can do nothing at all! Oh but if the dew of His presence be upon us, we will be blessed in our ways.

Hence! Until the Spirit of God blesses the sinner, there shall be no revelation of Christ upon the wilderness ground of his hard heart. Until the Spirit of God falls as the dew upon the ground of those hearing the preaching and teaching of the gospel of Christ, there shall be no saving manifestation of the Son of God to their understanding! Until the Spirit of God falls as the dew upon the preacher, there shall be no fruit of love and affection towards Christ in his own heart.  "It is the Spirit that quickeneth" every operation of faith and work accomplished by poor sinners for the masters honor!

 Without the Spirit, it is the dry morsel of Human effort, be it intellectual, emotional, sensual enthusiasm, you name it!

If we would have the True Manna, and we must. The DEW must fall first. Or all is in vain!

"Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts." Zech 4:6.
