Mighty works + no repentance = Woe unto you!

"Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:" Matthew 11vs20

The LORD Jesus having marveled at the impenitence of Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum, because of their unbelief, warns them of a just recompense soon to come!

How strong is this one vice of human depravity, that it should hold in silence the conscience of man's soul, and prevent the heart from prostrating itself before the LORD of Glory, who’s train often passes by the eyes and ears of sinners in a manifestation and display of testimony after testimony of his Sovereign saving Grace in Christ.

So many miracles, so many healings, so many gracious words, so many explanations of the sacred text , so many warnings with proofs; all to no avail. Ye men of Israel, hear these words; "Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:" Acts 2vs22

This witness is not unique to Christ's day only, but ancient Israel was condemned for the very same thing. Duet 29vs2-4 "And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land; 3 The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles: 4 Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day."

And how many today have heard and seen the glory of GOD in the proclamation of Christ crucified? How many have been rightly warned to flee from the wrath to come? How many professing believers have been spurred on to live a life of faith and service to Christ, knowing that henceforth is laid up a crown of righteousness to everyone that loves his appearing ; all to no avail.

The stupefying sin of unbelief still prevails to keep them from bowing to the glory of GOD revealed to them in the gospel. "Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.  But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you." Matthew 11:21-22

And here the Son of man speaks to all, knowing that the Father Sovereignly saves His own. This was his comfort and the comfort of all his servants.

"At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. 26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight." Matthew 11:25

Salvation is truly of the LORD!
