God's Servant “ NO POLISHED PULPITEER ”

For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodilypresence is weak, and his speech contemptible. 2cor 10:10

 Quite an assessment, by the opponents of the greatest, most effective, and useful servant of God in all the New testament. Their words convey to us a clear sense of superficial expectation. The common aspiration of men of this world, is the pleasure of what they see and hear. They care very little if it is true, at all!

It was the eloquence, the persuasive ear tickling power of rhetoric, so common among the philosophical orators of that day. These men were spellbinders. They could hold your attention about nothing, that meant anything, and produced ZILCH of any eternal benefit to your soul. And people filled their paper bags, or sacks with pay immediately after their entertainments: unchanged, As they headed off to lunch or dinner!

None of God’s servants, have ever been this vacuous. They do have a weighty message. A message that few will truly receive. They often do not qualify for leading roles inHollywood. And most of all, what is spoken, both encourages and offends their audience most all the time! Luke 6:26

For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. 3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Isa 53:2,3

Our Lords Word is weighty. It carries all the weight of perfect righteousness , infinite glory, and absolute truth. It will both save and damn. That’s how heavy it is. John 12:48

Our Lords person was so insignificant, we have no physical description of him, other than despised, rejected, uncomely, unimpressive; to the world, not the believer. To us He is PRECIOUS! 1Peter 2:7

And his gospel, His speech, is held in contempt by almost everyone, but a real, needy, eternity bound sinner. The gospel of His Grace, is repugnant to the natural man. It is exclusive, except to earnest sinners. And it is God glorifying and Christ exalting. Therefore it demolishes human pride and self esteem.

The POWER was not in his method! No technique. It was in His determination! “ Christ crucified” 1cor2:2

Few men believe this. We know, because few preach Christ. Some about him. Few preach Christ!

“His thoughts are not our thoughts. Neither are His ways.” Few, travel the road of free Sovereign Grace!
